Wakayama Prefecture: Nachi-Katsuura – Town of World Heritage, Onsen and Fresh Tuna

Nachi-Katsuura is a Town of World Heritage located in Wakayama prefecture, Japan. This place is your gateway to Nachi Taisha Falls. This small town is a tuna fishing port (has the highest catch of Tuna in Japan) and best known for its onsen (hot springs).

We spent the night in Nachi-Katsuura so we can have a full one-day tripventure to Nachi Taisha Falls.
The town is a coastal haven (looking out to the Pacific Ocean) offering fresh-caught bluefin tuna. Local people are normally busy in the morning then the place becomes so quiet around 4PM onwards.

The town seems to be desolated. Some of the businesses and convenience stores are closed and there are abandoned buildings.

I found out that this town has lost many of its citizens after the Wakayama landslides.

This seems to be like a usual shopping street, however, the stores are already closed and never open. It was around 7PM when we explore Kii-katsura and we've noticed a complete silence. Feels like an 'I am legend' movie scene.

This is the Kii-Katsura JR Station. Beside it, you will see taxis and buses that normally operate during business hours. A ticket booth (for Nachi Taisha Falls ticket) can also be located near the station,

Though it is a small town, my research shows that the place offers the following:
• Go to the sea to watch whales and dolphins.
• Some scenic hot spring bathing
• Boat tours around the rock formations of Katsuura Bay.
• Tuna auctions and fresh seafood at the fish market.
