Osaka Prefecture: Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine – One of the Most Renowned Shrines

Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine is one of the oldest shrines in Japan, located near the Sumiyoshi Taisha station on the Nankai line, southern Osaka Prefecture, Japan. This is also considered as the main and most famous of over two thousand Sumiyoshi shrines found across Japan.

The place is known for its iconic beautiful bridge called Sorihashi Bridge. A famous steeply arched bridge at the entrance towards the shrine. This bridge is also known as Taikobashi

They said that if you walk across the bridge, going to the Shrine, you are leaving all the bad and negative things. As you leave the Shrine and cross the bridge again, you are bringing with you the power of the divine.

We were bound to Kii-Katsura as the main destination for that day but we decided to stop by at Sumiyoshi Taisha station to explore the hidden Taisha.

Here's a video clip of our Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine tripventure:

It was 7:00 in the morning when reached the shrine, a perfect time to experience the natural beauty and nature of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine.

The trees in Sumiyoshi Taisha are over 1,000 years old (ancient trees) and at the beginning of each year, there are millions of worshippers visit the shrine to pray for prosperity and good health in the coming year.

Sumiyoshi Taisha indeed exemplifies a purely Japanese architectural design.

It was a great stop to explore the Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, a place where you could witness the local worshippers doing their prayer routine. Also, a less crowd that brings lovely and picturesque scenery. Matane, Sumiyoshi Taisha!
