Hokokuji is an old temple located in Kamakura, Japan. It is considered as one of the best spots in Kamakura due to its famous small bamboo forest that is peaceful, very scenic, and enchanting.
To get there, go to Kamakura JR Station then take a bus ride. It will take you around 6 minutes walk from the bus stop to reach Hokokuji. I recommend to visit the place early in the morning as a lot of tourists will start to arrive at the later part of the day.
We reached the wrong bus stop so we had to take a few minutes walk. We use our phone's GPS to help us locate the place but good things happen because there were local Japanese students along the way that willingly assisted us to reach the right bus stop. Here's the street going to Hokokuji Temple.
The entrance going to the Temple.
Did you know that Hokokuji Temple flourished as the family temple of both the Ashikaga and Uesugi clans?
If visiting the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is not included on your travel destinations due limited time and distance, you can enjoy this enchanting mini bamboo forest in Hokokuji. Based on my research, there are 2,000 Moso-bamboo planted beyond the temple gate.
