Arima Onsen, located in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture Japan, is a mountain spa resort (behind Mount Rokko) famous for its natural hot spring and known for its centuries-old bathhouses. The town is close to Kobe and Osaka which is an easy and yet popular day or weekend day trip.
The place is said to be a thousand years old and considered as one of Japan's ancient hot spring resorts. The three ancient springs in Japan are Hyogo's Arima Onsen, Ehime's Dogo Onsen, and Wakayama's Shirahama Onsen.
Within this bridge stands the statue of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's wife, Nene. The Taiko-Hashi bridge offers a picture-perfect view during the sakura season.
Who is Toyotomi Hideyoshi? He is the feudal ruler who unified Japan in 1590 as a successor to Oda Nobunaga. He greatly loved the Arima spa resort and worked for its revitalization and prosperity. Nene took over the Arima's revitalization after Hideyoshi's death.
Here's a short video clip about our tripventures in Arima Onsen.
Taiko-dori is the main street of Arima Onsen, a place where you can buy souvenirs.
Today, Arima Onsen looks to be modern but you can still see narrow lanes and wooden buildings once you explore the place. The town is small which can be explored by walk.
This street is called Yumotozaka that has souvenir shops and stored lined up on both sides.
