Details beside the statue is a summary about Hachiko and Dr. Ueno. Here's the summary:
Dr. Hidesaburo Ueno (1872-1925) and Hachiko (1923-1935)
Hachi (Akita dog) born in Odate city, was presented 50 days after birth to a Professor in The University of Tokyo. Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Hidesaburo Ueno (Agricultural Engineering, Irrigation, Drainage and Reclamation Engineering). Dr. Ueno loved dogs, and raised Hachi with great care and affection. He was always accompanied by Hachi when he commuted on foot to Komaba (where the Faculty of Agriculture was then located) or Shibuya station from where he went on official trips. Sadly, a year and a half later, on May 21, 1925, Dr. Ueno passed away suddenly in the campus. After this, until his death 10 year later, Hachi went to Shibuya station every morning and evening, and continued waiting at the ticket gate for Dr. Ueno’s return. Prior to Dr. Ueno’s death, the intelligent Hachi knew that Dr. Ueno returned home from Shibuya station after this long-term trips. Once when he reached the station, Dr. Ueno was surprised to see Hachi waiting to welcome him at the ticket gate. As seen in this statue they playfully rejoiced their meeting. – Produced by: Tsutomu Ueda (2015)
Glad to see that Hachi finally reunited with his master, Dr. Hidesaburo Ueno.
