Osaka Prefecture: Shinsekai and the Tsutenkaku Tower

Shinsekai is a colorful, energetic, and historic shopping district in Osaka, located in the west of Tennoji Park (2 minutes of walk from Dobutsuen-mae Station). The place is also known for its iconic Tsutenkaku Tower, the nostalgia-evoking symbol of Shinsekai.

Here's a video clip that gives a visual outlook about Shinsekai District.

Shinsekai means 'New World' because of its modern design that attracts many tourist in the early 20th Century. The place is designed as an entertainment district based on New York (southern part) and Paris (northern part)

Tsutenkaku Tower is one of the main attractions in Shinsekai. This tower was built in 1912 and the design was based on Parisian Eiffel Tower on top and the Arc de Triomphe at its base

Another thing that should not be missed in Shinsekai is Kushikatsu (Osaka's best known specialties) also known as Kushiage. It is a Japanese dish of deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables. I highly recommend to try Kushikatsu when you visit Shinsekai!

As you explore Shinsekai, you will notice the presence and visibility of this statue. It is a local mascot serve as a good luck charm. Statue's name is Billiken 'god of things as they ought to be' and was originally an American creation.
